This adaptation of an H.P. Lovecraft short story is incredibly eerie and creepy. It starts out with a phsyicists who creates a mechanism that opens a portal to another dimension. The question is…What lurks from beyond? Jeffrey Combs stars in this thriller as Crawford Tillinghast, the doctor’s assisstant in a science lab. One night, Crawford turns on the machine and sees what can only be described as beings from beyond. They are creatures that can’t be seen outside of aura that the device creates and they cannot see us. He then runs to tell the good doctor the machine finally works. When the doctor arrives to the laboratory he turns on the machine full blast. In doing so, he invokes a monster from the other side that attacks and rips his head right off. Crawford turns off the machine and the police hold him in mental prison as the suspected murderer of the Doctor. Believe it or not, it’s not until after he is told to prove his innocence that when the chills begin.

The first time I watched this Stuart Gordon masterpiece I was incredibly creeped out by the imagery of the other-wordly beasts. This was also my second introduction to Jeffrey Combs after Re-Animator who is an icredible person and an underrated character actor. From Beyond has a close resemblance to the game Half-Life. If you haven’t played the game it is where the secret laboratory creates a machine to travel to other dimensions. But I digress, this film is wonderfully acted and beautifully directed. If you are not into the science fiction-horror give it a rent, otherwise, go to your local best buy and pick this one up.

The good doctor.

The good doctor.

Definitely strange, but for those who enjoy the eerie and the macabre, you will love this one. I fell in love within the first ten minutes of viewing. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did. If you haven’t seen it, go check it out and comment on it later. Or if you have seen this already leave me some comments. I would love to hear what people think of this film. Here is a trailer for your consideration.
